Today marks the grand finale of Evolution of Style’s Holiday Home Tour—a delightful whirlwind of festive inspiration that has showcased so many creative holiday ideas! On this final day, the spotlight turns to bringing a touch of Christmas magic into bedrooms. If you’ve made your way here from Rachael’s beautiful home at This Is Our Bliss, welcome! I’m so happy you decided to stop by for a visit and see how we’ve prepared a peaceful holiday guest room.
Reclaiming Space for a Calm Retreat
Last spring, our two oldest children both graduated from college and began exciting new chapters on their own. Of course, I miss having them in the house, but their old rooms provided an opportunity to create two new spaces: an office for my husband and a guest room/office for me. While I’m still searching for the perfect desk, I’ve transformed my daughter’s former bedroom into a cozy, peaceful holiday guest room using items we already had on hand. (Naturally, when she visits, it’s simple to pull her keepsakes from an under-the-bed box to make it “Hannah’s Room” again.)
My main goal is for anyone who stays here—especially those who’ve traveled a long way—to feel completely at ease. I hope it’s a tranquil haven where guests can rest and recharge.
A Reading Nook Filled with Comfort
In one corner, I’ve placed the most comfortable bamboo chair, a treasured piece inherited years ago from my in-laws. It has gone through a couple of paint transformations—black, then white—and it still remains my favorite spot for a good book. I hope our guests find it just as inviting for a quiet escape during the holiday season.
A Versatile Table for Snacks and Devices
The small desk below is an older Ikea piece that I refreshed with white paint and a mottled mirror finish on the glass. Although my vision is to replace it with a desk that offers more storage, for now this little table works wonderfully. It’s a place for snacks, drinks, charging phones, or putting on makeup.
To keep things organized, I use a small tray on the shelf that perfectly fits goodies for our guests—an easy way to add an extra touch of hospitality.
Creative Seating with Garden Stools
Instead of a typical desk chair, I’ve brought in two garden stools that usually live on our new deck in the warmer months. They’re perfect for guests to pull up by the comfy bamboo chair or to perch on while getting ready at the table. Garden stools are among my favorite pieces because they’re endlessly adaptable, and in this peaceful holiday guest room, they serve multiple functions in a pinch.
A Handmade Oyster Shell Mirror
One of my proudest DIY projects is this oyster shell mirror, originally crafted for a bathroom makeover a few years back. Now it’s hanging in the guest room, adding a touch of coastal charm. I once spotted a similar but smaller mirror in a fancy Newport, Rhode Island shop with a staggering price tag of $545! I’ll happily stick with my DIY version—I love its sentimental value and unique look.
Thoughtful Wi-Fi Access
Framing your Wi-Fi login details is another small but meaningful touch for any holiday guest room. It helps visitors feel at home right away—no awkward searching for the password!
Storage for a Stress-Free Stay
When I travel, I like having somewhere to put suitcases and hang clothes, so I cleared out a portion of this closet for our guests. An extra pillow, blankets, wall hooks, and a luggage rack make unpacking effortless. By taking a bit of time to organize this space, I hope to create a calm, welcoming atmosphere that’s easy to settle into.
Layers of Soft Comfort
For our chilly New England weather, I layered the bed with soft furry pillows, a cozy down comforter, and a snuggly duvet. It’s all about plush textures and warmth during the holiday season, and I think this combination strikes the perfect balance of “all is calm, all is bright.” Everything is kept visually quiet—no clutter, just inviting layers.
A Warm Welcome for Every Guest
Those oversized pillows are the softest I’ve ever come across, and they’re a big hit with anyone who stays here. Between that and the gentle glow of a small Christmas tree in a basket, I trust our friends and family will find this peaceful holiday guest room a restful haven.
Thank you so much for dropping by to take a peek at our serene holiday space! If there’s anything you’re looking for from this room, I’ve added source links at the end of this post.
