After months of planning, designing, and working on every little detail, I am beyond thrilled to finally reveal my ten-year-old daughter’s brand-new bedroom! This has been such a special project for both of us, as we worked together to create a space that reflects her personality, incorporates her favorite colors, and brings a sense of joy and comfort.
The Before:
Let’s take a moment to appreciate where we started. Before this transformation, Hannah’s bedroom was a mix of colors, styles, and furniture that no longer fit her growing personality. As she’s transitioned from little girl to tween, she needed a space that better suited her current interests while also leaving room for her to grow.
She wanted something that felt fresh, vibrant, and fun but also calming and cozy. After many discussions (and a few negotiations), we finally landed on the perfect vision for her new blue bedroom!
Our Colorful Inspiration
One thing was certain from the start: blue was going to be the star of the show! My daughter has always loved cool-toned shades, and we wanted to find the perfect balance between bold and serene. We gathered tons of inspiration, looked through Pinterest boards, flipped through paint swatches, and debated between different shades of blue—everything from soft pastels to deep navy hues.
Finally, we settled on a beautiful combination of sky blue, soft white, and a few pops of navy to add contrast. The goal was to create a space that felt light and airy but also had cozy, personal touches.
And Now…. The Big Reveal! 🎉
After weeks of painting, organizing, decorating, and adding those perfect finishing touches…
Ta-da! ✨
The room has completely transformed into a dreamy blue retreat that my daughter absolutely adores!
Here’s what we did to bring this vision to life:
1. A Fresh Coat of Paint
The biggest impact came from painting the walls in a soft, sky blue shade. This instantly brightened up the room and gave it a more serene and sophisticated feel. To complement the blue, we kept the trim and ceiling crisp white, which helped enhance the overall airy and fresh vibe.
2. Furniture Makeover & New Additions
Since we were working with an existing bed frame and a few older pieces of furniture, we decided to give them a little refresh rather than replacing everything. A fresh coat of white paint on the nightstand and desk made a huge difference, helping them blend seamlessly into the new color scheme.
For a fun twist, we added new gold hardware to the dresser, giving it a chic, modern touch. We also brought in a few new furniture pieces—a cozy reading chair in a deep navy fabric and a beautiful white bookcase to help keep her growing book collection organized.
3. Textiles & Cozy Layers
To make the room feel even more inviting, we focused on layering plush and soft textiles throughout the space.
- A navy and white patterned area rug grounds the room and adds a lovely contrast to the light blue walls.
- A fluffy white duvet paired with navy and blush accent pillows gives the bed a cozy and polished look.
- A delicate sheer canopy draped over the bed added a whimsical, dreamy feel that my daughter absolutely loves!
4. Wall Art & Personal Touches
No room is complete without personal details! We wanted the decor to reflect Hannah’s unique personality, so we carefully selected pieces that felt meaningful to her:
- A custom name sign in gold lettering above her bed for a personalized touch.
- A gallery wall featuring framed watercolor prints, inspirational quotes, and travel photos to bring in some character and charm.
- Floating shelves to display some of her favorite collectibles and keepsakes.
- A DIY pinboard for her to hang notes, photos, and artwork, making the space feel even more personal.
5. Lighting Up the Space
Lighting played a crucial role in making the room feel warm and inviting. We added a statement pendant light with a gold finish to bring a modern, elegant touch. On the bedside table, a soft-glow lamp with a ceramic blue base adds just the right amount of warmth for nighttime reading.
One of Hannah’s favorite additions? Twinkle fairy lights woven around her canopy and shelves to give her room a magical, dreamy ambiance! ✨
6. Storage & Organization Solutions
Since Hannah’s room is on the smaller side, maximizing storage was essential. We incorporated clever storage solutions to keep things neat and clutter-free:
- Under-bed storage bins for seasonal clothes and extra bedding.
- Labeled baskets for toys, crafts, and accessories.
- A wall-mounted pegboard near the desk for organizing school supplies while keeping them easily accessible.
- Drawer dividers in the dresser to keep clothing neatly sorted.
The Final Look – A Perfect Balance! 💙
This project was truly a labor of love, and seeing Hannah’s face light up when she walked into her newly transformed room made every bit of effort so worth it. The room is a perfect blend of fun and sophistication, striking a balance between the whimsy of childhood and the functionality of a growing tween’s space.
It’s a place where she can read, do homework, relax, and, most importantly, feel completely at home. 💙
