Today’s Paint Color Crush is Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray, and the design around it is dedicated to all of you working with big brown leather furniture! The topic of brown leather comes up SO often when I’m talking to clients, friends and family about refreshing spaces in their homes. So much so that I actually created a Pinterest board dedicated entirely to rooms with brown leather furniture!
We have a medium brown leather couch and loveseat, and I have a love/hate relationship with them. I LOVE them for their durability (they have held up amazingly to our rambunctious family, life with a drooly dog, and entertaining!) but once in a while I grow weary of them because they are just SO BROWN.
If you can relate, then this is for you. For those of you who want to refresh a space that has a big medium or dark brown leather element in it, consider balancing out the visual warmth and heaviness of the leather with a cool tone on the walls and floor. Classic Gray is a one of my favorite colors ever! A barely-there gray that is cool without being sterile; it’s just enough of a color to make white trim pop, and it works with so many color palettes! SPLURGE on a good quality, neutral wool rug (a good place to invest your money and hey! The name of this one is Shine)
SAVE on the coffee table ottoman (on sale for less than $200 + free shipping, yee haw). We have loved our Restoration Hardware coffee table ottoman for years – it’s great for a family room where you might want to stretch out your legs, and with a big tray it works for entertaining too. I like the metal x-base on this one that gives it a more modern feel.

The throw blanket. I LOVE finding and supporting artisans on Etsy and this company really piqued my interest, a group of women in Denver who hail from Ecuador and sell their handmade blankets, ponchos, scarves and jewelry. I haven’t bought anything from them yet but “favorited” their shop so I can keep them in mind in the future. Read here about their company, HuarmiMaki.
The chair. It has really great reviews, plus the size and shape are timeless and the dark feet tie into dark brown leather. Buying upholstered furniture without seeing it in person can be a bit intimidating but I had a great experience with new chairs in my family room and items I’ve ordered online for clients. Just do your research, read reviews and pay attention to the dimensions.
