Yesterday I mentioned that a coffee table is on the to-do list for my One Room Challenge family room project.
Mark and I both are in agreement about going with something metal and wood. Like I do when I work with a client, I honed in on the look we were going for then looked for options high and low. Lately Mark and I have been smitten with the idea of a parquet top table so I researched and found a few tables in similar sizes, at various price points. They are actually all different species of wood which is something important to consider also. Are you a fan of this look too? If so, read on to check out some good options.
Wayfair’s August Grove Coffee Table

Some of the reviews said the color is a little more yellow/gold in color than the picture suggests. Pine is also soft so it dents easily, but for a rustic table like this I wouldn’t mind a bit of distressing. Also, I think the finish is kind of shiny and that wouldn’t be my first choice for a “reclaimed wood” look. But isn’t the top pretty?
Crate & Barrel’s Dixon Coffee Table

This pattern is herringbone (yes, herringbone is considered parquet too). I like the color and finish. We almost pulled the trigger on this one but it wasn’t in stock, and I’m an instant gratification kind of girl. (Plus, maybe too much herringbone in one room with the marble fireplace surround???)
Pottery Barn’s Parquet Reclaimed Wood Rectangular Coffee Table

This one doesn’t have that really modern minimalist squared off base that the others feature, but I like the detail on this one, and the parquet top has that authentic, rustic, un-shiny “reclaimed” look that I love.
Wisteria’s Parquet Coffee Table (Rectangular)
MANGO | 53″x40″x17.5″
This one is huge – 40″ wide – so it’s not ideal for our family room, but I wanted to include it in this roundup because I love the finish on the parquet top – kind of a natural-looking weathered grey. Mango is a hard wood, and it also grows quickly so it’s one of the more sustainable and environmentally-friendly wood options for furniture, but it’s also considered mid-to-low end, so I’m not sure it’s price tag is justified.

OF COURSE the most expensive one is my favorite – is it because it’s name suggests it is something really special? That’s marketing there at it’s finest, but I do love that raw, natural wood look. Something tells me this won’t be showing up in my RH Outlet store that I stalk weekly because it’s nearby.

I would love your thoughts on whether I am going too pattern crazy in my neutral little room here. We’ve got greige walls, greige chairs and simple white curtains, but then there’s a bit of subtle pattern action between the rectangular marble tile surround, the herringbone tiled hearth, and the rug. Don’t take into consideration my orangey floors because someday when pigs fly those will be refinished
